Fitting Room Chronicles: Forever 21

After lunch, a friend of mine wanted to go to Forever 21. I am battling a head cold and wasn't really up for shopping and dealing with the crowds of people. Nevertheless, I accompanied her and ended up trying on a couple of things.

Tribal prints is one of the trends this spring and of course F21 was filled with them. I am wary of tribal prints because they can super cute but also super disastrous and also because on a petite frame it tends to be too loud and overwhelming. Since my friend was trying on a few things I grabbed a few items to try on.

Chiffon Leopard Mini Skirt - half off!! I thought this was cute but it just didn't seem to fit right. I felt it looked kind of too puffy.

Print Jersey Dress and Crochet Vest - I kinda just put this together in the fitting room but I thought it turned out okay. The dress is ruched on the side so I felt like it kept riding up.

Tribal Print top - this did not work out so well for me. I didn't have anything to wear it without except these beige shorts so maybe if I have paired it better? Either way, I was not  a fan (it looked decent on the rack).

Chiffon Print top - I like this top but it was too big and I couldn't find an XS :(

Anybody successfully try on or purchase something in tribal print? I would love to get some ideas! Please share!

Gold Skirt Remix Part III & Some Food for Thought

Today I attended a conference about relational aggression and building resiliency against bullying in our kids and teens. Recently in the media, there have been many cases of bullying that have caused lasting traumatic effects on its victims and have even led to suicide. As a school personnel in training, I attended the conference in order to better inform myself on this rising "epidemic."

The speaker was very informative and gave a touching presentation. One of the things that I remember most about the presentation was a teacher who gave each of her high school seniors a simple blue ribbon that said "Who I Am Makes A Difference" and told them how they had made a difference to her. She then handed each student three more ribbons and asked them to give a ribbon to someone who they thought made a difference and then ask that person to take the remaining two ribbons and pass it onto someone who they thought made a difference and so on. Long story short, it turned into a class project and as the students handed out ribbons to various members in their community, it ended up saving a 14 year old boy's life.

I was very touched by this story and it reminded me of the wonderful and inspirational people whom we hear about, read about or fortunately know or encounter everyday that make a difference to us. So next time you are feeling down or or a little lost, please remember that who you are makes a difference and remind those around you as well.

On a lighter note - gold skirt remix part III! I cheated a little today and I'm wearing essentially the same pieces as yesterday but look how easy it is to create a new look by just removing something and adding another. And I still love headbands :)

OOTD: Gold Skirt Remix Part II

Day two of my mini fashion challenge. The highlight of today's outfit (other than the gold skirt) is my headband! I love headbands and for a while I wore them all the time.  I already look way young for my age and one day my friend told me that headbands made me look even younger and I stopped wearing them...until now! Anyways, headbands are awesome because if you're having a bad hair day like I was, you just put it on and it can really cover up your hair troubles when a hat is not an option. Comment if you like headbands! :)

OOTD: Gold Skirt Remix Part I

I am tempted to do the 30x30 challenge that some bloggers are doing in order to push myself to put together new outfits and to rediscover old pieces that have been shoved into the corner of my closet by new conquers. I also need to stop shopping but the sales are too tempting! I almost asked for an intervention but I don't think I'm ready to give up those plastic cards that are really demons in disguise...

So in an attempt to ease myself into the 30x30 (which is ultimately my goal but just waiting for the right time) I decided to try and put together 7 different outfits for each day of the week with a GOLD skirt I have from Ann Taylor LOFT. Though the holiday season is long over and gold is not really a spring color, this piece was chosen because it won the eeny meeny miney mo contest (seriously).

I am open to different suggestions and ideas so lemme know what you think! Stayed tuned tomorrow for Part II.

Outfit Specifics:
shirt from A&F kids (thank goodness the moose is white and not black)
skirt from Ann Taylor LOFT
necklace from H&M
belt from H&M
ring from H&M
purse was a gift
shoes from Ann Taylor

*my brother who is my unwilling photog likened my outfit to a park ranger or Ms. Frizzle in an episode of The Magic School Bus Goes to the Jungle. Thankfully, we have little brothers to make us second guess our outfits and ruin favorite childhood cartoons. Ms. Frizzle would rock Ann Taylor pumps for sure.

Color Brigade: Vol 12

Cute & little hosts a weekly Color Brigade in which members must create an outfit combining at least 3 different colors. I was intrigued by this because I wear a lot of black, blues and greys, despite owning lots of colorful clothing so I decided to become a member. Hopefully this will help me incorporate more color into my outfits. This is my first attempt - ahh couldn't get away from black!

Visit cute & little to see other outfits (there were some really creative ones this week!)

Colors: brown, pink/orange, yellow & black

Outfit Specifics: shirt from H&M; scarf was a gift; belt and jeans from Urban Outfitters; shoes from Asia

Fitting Room Chronicles: H&M

There was no line when I got to the fitting room so I broke a bad habit and actually tried stuff on in the store. Here's what I tried on:

White Flowered Mini Jacket - sz 2; thought it might be nice over a dress or something but I didn't like the sleeves.
Print Dress - sz 4; I loved this dress but I couldn't find a sz 2. The sz 4 fit okay but it was a little loose everywhere. I tried two different H&Ms but couldn't find my size. I was going to try a third store but the crowds of people on the streets really deterred me - someone remind me never to go shopping again on a Saturday afternoon in New York.
(a close-up of the pattern)

Simple Brown Dress - sz2; I've been really drawn to brown clothing lately so when I saw this and the price, I really had to try it on. It was simple enough and can be paired with fun accessories.

(the double mirrors in the fitting room really
helped but please excuse the shoddy backview pictures)

H&M Haul: pink, prints and lace

Proudlypetite.com is having a giveaway! Click here to enter! Or look to my sidebar for the button.

Note: Please excuse the lighting in my pictures. I am still working on my photography skills.

I went to H&M and went a little crazy. I have a bad habit of not trying things on, especially when they are moderately priced and when the store has ridiculous fitting room wait times. I end up having to make another trip to return most of my purchases and then I end up browsing more and purchasing more things. See the problem? I know, it's a vicious cycle. Anybody else like that? Anyway, I thought I'd share some cute finds that I'm deciding on.

First item on the list is this cute pink ruffle top. I was originally drawn to the bright red one that was on the mannequin and was disappointed when they didn't have my size. But then as I browsed some more, I was pleasantly surprised to find this pink colored one which I decided I like better and could wear more often. I like the cascading flowy part on the bottom and the flowers on top make me feel like a Greek goddess, haha :) It's a little big under the arms and on top but it's do-able under a blazer or cardigan.

Next, I got two tan/beige colored pencil skirt. I'm keeping the one on the right. It was a little snug but I still comfortable. Does it look too tight? It's my usual H&M size - 2. I like the detailing at the waist and is a perfect-for-work transition piece for spring. I need to get it shortened a bit. The one on the right is too big  and the side was weird even though it's also a sz 2.

I also wanted a print dress that didn't have a pattern that would completely overwhelm my frame. I think I'll keep this.

I saw this shirt on a mannequin (in white) and thought it would be a good shirt to add a little flare under a cardigan. Only problem is it's kind of low cut so have to either wear another top under or on a night out.
(sorry for the wrinkles)
Lastly, I found this blazer. I think the cut is great, not too boxy, detailing in the front and back, a good length, but the sleeves are too long and it's...pink. Not that I have anything against pink (see first item) but as a blazer I'm not sure I can pull it off. Any ideas or suggestions? I think they had some other colors as well so maybe a more neutral color would be a smarter addition to my wardrobe; so I'm undecided - thank goodness for 30 day return policies!
Actually, after taking these pictures, I decided not to keep the blazer. The shell is cotton and elastane but it's SO wrinkly. I had to iron the blazer in order to make it presentable for the pictures and it's still wrinkly (or it could be testament to my ironing skills). Has anybody tried this blazer?

OOTD: Sweet Sunday

Sunday was nice and relaxing. I had a late lunch and then Pinkberry (even though it was deceivingly cold outside). Then decided to make mini-cupcakes - sweet and simple, vanilla with chocolate icing.
Just thought I'd share my outfit of the day. Hope everyone had a nice weekend! Monday came too soon...

The ring is from TopShop - oh, I love bows!

The Inception & Petite Fashion Challenge #6

This is my first blog post and as you can tell I am still so new at this. My blog is going to need a lot of work and I am completely HTML incompetent so please bear with me. I've been a long time follower of  both Jean from exatrapetite.com and Jen frmheadtotoe.com and both ladies have been fashion and make-up inspirations for me. They have shared so much of their experiences and expertise in regards to petite fashion and beauty and have helped me so much in being a smart shopper. Thanks ladies!
I decided to revitalize this old blog I had so I can post my entry for the Petite Fashion Challenge #6 - I know we don't need to have a blog to enter but I am a 5  foot 2 shopaholic so I hope that I can share some fun fashion ideas with the petite blogging community.

(visit Stylepint for entries)
"Dress Up Your Basics: Jeans and a tee is a classic outfit starter...for this challenge, start off with a jeans and tee basic look and dress it up to show off your personal style."

I love (funky) shoes and bulky sweaters (this one's from Urban Outfitters) so trying to incorporate these two pieces into an outfit was a lot of fun. The t-shirt is way too big on me but since I got it for really cheap at a night market in Asia, wasn't even worth the alterations. Green suede shoes (Nine West) were a little tough but I think it worked out pretty well - now if only New York would get a little warmer so I could wear these cropped pants without freezing my ankles!
